Do you have your own gem rough? Did you miss out on a one of a kind piece that sold in a flash? Have you just bought a loose stone that you want set? Do you have jewelry and gem dreams you want to make a reality? *same tho* Let's have a chat and see what we can make happen!
For Faceting...
My base rate for faceting is $30/hr, with a $150 minimum.
...Material I am Providing/Sourcing
After the client and I have determined the material, color, shape, design and rough estimate* of billable hours. There will be a non-refundable deposit dependent on the material. The faceting will be billed at base rate, unless the material requires special attention which will increase the hourly rate. i.e. cleavage, orienting for color effects.
If at any point after I've begun cutting the material, the client no longer wishes to continue, for any reason, they are still responsible for the billable hours up to that point and will receive an invoice which must be still be paid in addition to forfeiture of the piece in progress.
...Client Provided Rough
I charge a non-refundable fee ($60 within the US) to assess if the material is facet quality and if it's suitable for the shape and design you want OR a shape and design I believe is suitable. This will allow me to give a rough estimate* of cost based on the material and my base rate.
The client is responsible for shipping the piece of rough to me along with any associated costs and remains liable up until I confirm receipt of the correct and undamaged item. If the rough has been damaged in transit or is found not to be the material stated by the client, the client will be contacted and the commission will be re-evaluated.
NEVER SHIP ANYTHING WITHOUT EXPLICIT ACKNOWLEDGEMENT FROM ME OR BEFORE RECEIVING AN INVOICE. ANY UNEXPECTED PACKAGES WILL BE RETURNED TO SENDER.
After receiving the rough material I will contact the client with my assessment. If the rough is suitable and we agree on continuing to facet as discussed and with acknowledgement of the unpredictable nature and risks of faceting, then I will proceed to preform the rough and give updates if plans change.
If at any point after I've begun cutting the material, the client no longer wishes to continue for any reason they are still responsible for the billable hours up to that point and will receive an invoice which must be paid regardless of, and certainly before return of the piece in progress.
*I am generally able to give a rough estimate of billable hours, I will not charge if actual work exceeds my estimation by over 3hrs
E.g. If I estimate 10-12 hours of work but end up spending 17 hours on it I would only bill a maximum of 15 hours.
Basically please budget for $100 of wiggle room, but also I am willing to suffer if my time management is THAT bad.
For Jewelry & Settings
If you are interested in modifications to an existing piece of jewelry I make to order beyond the options listed please reference the specific piece when describing the modification you envision.
If you are interested in a custom setting for a gem you purchase from me, or would like to know the kind of piece I envision putting it in please reference the stone in your message.
Alternatively if you are interested in pre-made settings for a stone I have listed or one that you want to commission you can take a look here.
While I am somewhat limited in my current studio, I DO fortunately "know a guy". Which is to say I won't know if I can make your dreams a reality unless you tell me what they are.
